Does Waxing Hurt?  Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but you can expect a short, stinging sensation after the strip is pulled.  If you are worried about being sensitive, taking an ibuprofen or aspirin about 30 minutes before your appointment should minimize your discomfort (consult with your physician before taking medications).  Continuous waxing produces finer and less hair, therefore waxing becomes less painful.

What Kind Of Wax Do You Use?  We use two types of wax.  We use a Zinc Oxide soft wax that is specifically formulated for sensitive skin.  Soft wax is used for larger body areas such as legs, arms, chest and back and it is removed by using a cloth strip.  For more sensitive areas of the body, we use a hard wax that shrink wraps and hardens around the hair and lifts from the skin creating a less painful removal.

How Long Can I Expect My Wax To Last?  Everybody’s hair growth is different, and length of time between needed waxing will differ from person to person.  For most people, maintenance is between 3-5 weeks.

Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker Or Darker?  No, waxing actually has the opposite effect. Hair that is removed at the roots grows in finer and softer over time.

Is There A Minimum Age To Receive Waxing?  Age limitations differ for waxing services.  For our clients under the age of 16, we ask that a parent or guardian accompanies them to the appointment.

Can I Be Waxed If I Am Taking Retin A, Renova or Accutane?  These medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates so waxing could potentially remove skin as well as hair.  Please let your Esthetician know immediately if you are on any medications.  Also be aware that chemical peels, laser and micro-dermabrasion can also affect skin integrity.

Are There Other Medications To Be Aware Of?  There are many medications that affect skin and skin integrity (glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, antibiotics, hormonal medications, radiation and/or chemotherapy drugs).  Please consult with your physician in regards to any medications and how it may affect your waxing experience.  Some brand names to be aware of: Adapalene, Avita, Tazorac Avage, Proactiv(e), Differin, Strivectin.

What Is The Difference Between A Bikini And Brazilian Wax?

Bikini – hair will be removed that extends outside of the panty line or crease of thigh.

Brazilian – all hair removed including between the cheeks (some prefer leaving a small patch in front).

How Do I Prepare For My Waxing Service?  We recommend that you exfoliate the area several days prior to your appointment.  Thoroughly clean the area keeping the skin moist, but not greasy from heavy lotions or oils.

How Long Does My Hair Have To Be?  Hair needs to be at least ¼” to ½” for effective waxing.  For most people this means waiting 2-4 weeks (minimum of 2 weeks) from the last time you shaved.

Can I Get Waxed If I’m On My Period?  Yes. However, the increased hormone activity will make you more sensitive, so avoid waxing 3 days before and the first 3 days of your cycle.

Can I Get Waxed If I’m Pregnant?  Absolutely. We are experienced in making our pregnant clients feel as comfortable as possible during their waxing experience.

Can I Tan Before A Wax?  We recommend that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours prior to and after your wax.

Any Other Things I Should Consider Prior To Waxing?  Females may want to schedule their appointment during the first 2 weeks of their cycle as it will help decrease sensitivity.  Also, avoid stimulants, such as caffeine, as they may increase sensitivity levels.

What Should I Do For Aftercare?  Your skin may be sensitive following your wax.  Any red bumps or irritation should subside within a few hours.  Avoid sun exposure/tanning, hot baths/hot tubs, heavy lotions and exfoliation for 48 hours following your service.

How Do I Prevent Ingrown Hairs?  Ingrown hairs are thin hairs that cannot push through the skin resulting in inflammation.  The best way to prevent them is to gently exfoliate 2-3 times a week.  We have several products available including micro-exfoliating body bars and Tend Skin to help minimize this condition.

How Often Should I Get Waxed?  This varies depending on the area of body being waxed and individual hair growth.  On average, we recommend waxing every 4 weeks for best results.
